Cyrus Villanueva has advanced to next week’s final four semi-final on The X Factor Australia.
In Monday’s top-five showdown, the 19-year-old Filipino-Australian student covered Ellie Goulding’s hit track Love Me Like You Do.
“Cyrus, you are definitely a force to be reckoned with,” said judge Guy Sebastian. “You very rarely set a foot wrong in this competition. We’re only two weeks away from the final and you did everything you needed to do to be there. I hope you’re there – you deserve to be there.”
James Blunt said: “I think it’s a really, really tough song. Cyrus, you’re the one person in this competition who can pull it off – awesome.”
Dannii Minogue added: “I turned around and not only was everybody standing up, but there were people crying as well.”
Villanueva’s mentor, too, was all praise. “I’m really happy you took the hard way, not the easy way,” he said, referring to Villanueva’s decision to play the piano during his performance. “You did the work and I’m proud of you. Well done, man.”
